VIRTUAL LABOR

VIRTUAL LABOR SUPPORT

Picture
"Nathalie was extremely helpful.  The additional challenges due to COVID19 were made easier with Nathalie's in-person and virtual guidance. During postpartum, her assistance on getting settled was appreciated and certainly helped make our first few weeks more manageable.  We would recommend Nathalie for any of our expectant family or friends".

At the moment, we have adapted to a new teleworking environment.  We will provide you with as much virtual support as necessary.  Virtual consults are not only offered by your doula, but should also be available by your OB/GYN and/or your midwife.

A big chunk of our virtual doula support is about education.
We will educate you about your pregnancy, about being in labor and what to expect postpartum. During labor, we help guide our clients emotionally and physically. We help them become better advocates for themselves, while also making sure the birth journey goes smoothly. We do that by texting (mostly with the partner or other support person), or Facetime. From the site there's a lot of information to share to keep the baby moving by advising comfort measures.

With concern for the spread of COVID, nurses & doctors have had to reduce all non-essential physical contact. So, you may not be seen as often as in pre-COVID times. Therefore, having the extra support of a doula is needed now more than ever!

WHAT DOES VIRTUAL SUPPORT LOOK LIKE?

Nowadays, with technology from Zoom, FaceTime and Skype, we can digitally be in the labor room with you.  The focus is again: education.  Teaching the both pregnant mom and partner what to expect during pregnancy and the birth of their baby.

The partner and the doula are still your dream support team.

YOUR DOULA IS WITH YOU! YOU ARE NOT ALONE

  • We start with a free consult to see if we are a good fit.
  • After signing a contract, I am 24/7 on call for you.
  • I work with a secured back-up doula.
  • Unlimited text/phone/email support throughout your pregnancy and after birth.
  • Continuous virtual labor support.
  • We plan 2 prenatal "visits" via Zoom or Skype, but if you like to check in more often via Skype, that's totally fine. Education is the key. At this stage it's even more important that I know that you and your partner are prepared as best as possible.
  • I can recommend a bunch of excellent books and videos, I also have a variety of forms with great information to share in preparation for the big day!
  • I provide a ton of information (also YouTube videos), about different exercises to do when you are in pre-labor and active labor. We will also make you a "presentation book" with all these files in it.
  • During the prenatal visit:
       -  We go over a birth preference plan.
       -  We talk about coping mechanisms.
       -  I teach you about what options are available to you.
       -
We will talk about your ideal birth and your fears.
       -  We can discuss if you would like a home visit while you are in pre-labor.

       -  I will teach your partner how to help you best.
  • My goal is to give you and your partner guidance while in labor, from a distance, so you can still have an easier labor and a positive birth experience.
  • Having reassurance that a continuous support person is always available.
  • I will provide 2 virtual postpartum visits.

A DOULA'S STORY

"With one of my clients, I checked in right from the beginning. I knew she was going to the hospital because her water broke. We were not "face-timing" all the time, but a couple of times. Especially, when the partner needed me. We did a lot of texting.

It happened in the middle of the night and I stayed awake. They knew that I was 100% available for them. That reassurance was important for them. To guide them through the whole process and to be an advocate for them when decisions had to be made.

I helped them to change positions every 30 minutes and my client was very cooperative and her partner very hands-on. When I wanted to show a position on video, I even made my husband get involved. Although I was not literally with them in the room, I felt very involved in the whole birth process. Virtual support can be provided in different ways. They were grateful by the support being given. They look back on it with a positive feeling".

Bottom line: "I value my virtual doula support to help to navigate you in this challenging time and to make a difference for you! Your doula will be your continuous support person whereas you don't know which nurse or doctor will be on duty. I will do my utmost best to give you the best possible birth experience".
